According to police in Seattle, a 26-year-old man crashed his vehicle into a parked car on South Holly Street at around 5 p.m. on June 29. He was reportedly observed driving around 80 miles per hour in a 30 mile per hour zone. The incident was still under investigation that day, and the driver could be charged with driving under the influence.
An officer initially noticed a man driving through hedges and on the sidewalk while traveling south on Martin Luther King Jr. Way before turning onto South Othello Street. He then sped past the officer, who briefly lost sight of the man as he was driving so fast. However, after turning onto South Holly Street, the man’s car crashed into a parked car. Although he was not injured in the accident, he was taken to the hospital for treatment due to acting erratically according to authorities.
A driver charged with DUI could face penalties such as jail time, a fine and a license suspension if convicted. It may be worthwhile for those facing drunk driving charges to talk with a DUI defense attorney who may be able to negotiate a plea bargain with the prosecution. If a lawyer is successful in having a charge reduced from a DUI, his or her client can avoid some of the previously mentioned DUI penalties.
Instead of spending time in jail, a driver may be required to submit to random alcohol testing or attend driver education courses as part of a plea deal. In some cases, complying with all aspects of a plea deal could result in the charge being expunged from that driver’s record or amended to a simple traffic violation.
